Camano Schoolhouse Foundation Celebrates Womens History Month with Program: How Title IX Changed Women’s Sports
In celebrating Women’s History Month, the Camano Schoolhouse Foundation is hosting a program, “How Title IX Changed Women’s Sports” on Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 pm at the Camano City Schoolhouse, 993 Orchid Road just off Chapman Road. Title IX of the Educational Amendments, passed in 1972, led to dramatically expanding women’s athletic opportunities in high schools and colleges. It requires gender equity for boys and girls in every educational program that receives federal funding. Susan Cole, local businesswoman and an elite soccer player and coach, will lead a panel of women athletes who either overcame obstacles to compete or were beneficiaries of Title IX. A suggested donation of $10 is requested. All proceeds fund the repair and preservation of the historic 1906 Camano City Schoolhouse and the newly acquired Camano City Firehouse.
