Winter Crabbing

This past season was one of the best in recent memory for crabbing in Port Susan. And – the crab is guaranteed to taste even better – when you have fought the elements to obtain it!  Summer crabbing is for tourists – winter crabbing is serious business.

Where to start? I don’t need to tell you to dress in layers do I? That is mandatory. Check in at Elger Bay Grocery on Camano Island for your license, to talk fishing smack, and get the skinny on the season. Elger Bay Grocery also offers ethanol-free fuel for your boat engine, as well as all the saltwater fishing gear and crab pots you are looking for. Grab a sandwich and warm cup of joe to go.

Don’t want to get out the boat? Take a stroll at Kayak Point and drop your crab pot at the end of the 300’ fishing pier.

Launch your boat at an one of these boat launches on Camano Island:

  • Camano Island State Park
  • Camano Island Yacht Club (members only)
  • Cavalero Boat Launch
  • Mabana Beach
  • Maple Grove Boat Launch
  • Utsalady Boat Launch

Winter crabbing for 2017 began on October 7th and will close on December 31st. For regulations and important information visit http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/area.php
