Description
The Whidbey Camano Land Trust led the effort in helping Island County expand this park.
In densely populated Puget Sound, few stretches of land feel wild and unchanged. But along the edge of a cove tucked into the eastern side of Camano Island, we accomplished a rare feat: expanding a waterfront park from 27 to nearly 170 acres, with mature coastal forest and a mile of unspoiled beach. In less than three years, we raised nearly $7 million to protect vital fish and wildlife habitat, and give hikers, beach walkers and birdwatchers the chance to explore a part of the island open to the public for the first time in over a century.
